Paddler Spotlight -- Brianne!!

Dunking day (Birthday):
October 16th

If you could have an endless supply of any 3 food items, what would you have?
Pad se ew
Egg salad sandwiches
Bri likes Brie? Go figure!
How long have you been paddling and what were you thinking when you got into Space?
I paddled in high school all 4 years and then joined Space after college, last May. I was genuinely thinking that joining Space was going to be the best decision I've made since moving to California. And without getting too sentimental, it definitely was.

Who got you into paddling and why do you do it week in and week out?
My sister! Good old Sarah just happened to know the girl who started our high school team and the next year I was a freshman and wanted to be cool too. I think there’s a level of addiction to it. It’s fun, challenging, makes me feel productive. I like being individually focused but completely supported by my teammates.

Under what conditions are you paddling at your best?
I think I paddle best angry. Which was easier when I was in high school, but I can usually think of something…

Favorite or notable Space Dragon moment(s)?
Getting dunked a few months before my actual birthday. Seeing a dolphin, which still blows my mind.
The year end party Kahlua cake…

How do you prep yourself for a Race?
I try to stay calm, and visualize the times when everything just clicks.

What do you do when you're not paddling? Hobbies, activities, interests?
Oh, games and knitting, movies and reading. Beer.

Any advice for newbie paddlers?
Listen to Emily. And watch her. Actually, just stalk her, she’s amazing.

Paddling-wise, what particular goals do you have for yourself and for the  team?
I would looove to do the guts and glory race in Vancouver. Saw it once and it mesmerized me. Team wise, I would generally like to kick ass. This year feels really strong already, it’s great.

What makes a champion?
Rod.

If you could change one thing about the Team what would it be?
Fake answer, we would move to Portland. Real answer, we would occasionally paddle to music.

Best thing about being a Space Dragon?
The overwhelming level of positivity, socially and athletically. It’s really an amazing labor of love, community-oriented environment.

Assuming you had a single brother or sister, what Space Dragon might you consider hooking them up with?
I feel like this is a trick question if the person answering is single. I’ll say Louise because she’s cool and plays cards.

"I'm quite fond of Felicia. She's a complex lady."

Most interesting character you've met through the team?

If you were to trade any SD teammate for an RFX (Ripple) paddler, who would it be?
Nooooo! This question stresses me out.

If you were to be stranded on an island with any 3 SD paddlers, who would you choose to get-by and pass the time with?
Jackie for the dance parties
Steve for shade if there aren't any trees.
Wade for serious island career discussions
Are you the only child, the eldest, the middle child, or the baby? Do you fit the stereotype?
Grew up as the baby but now I have an awesome younger half-sister. Is there a stereotype for that? I probably fit it. I’m the quiet, does-everything-slightly-different-just-for-the-hell-of-it one.

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the word(s):
1. pounce – The Lion King, and then Devant singing “A Whole New World”
2. voluptuous - Pillows
3. predator – Carl Weathers’ arm
4. prey – A mouse
5. Space Dragons – Blue
Name something that our readers don't already know about you.
I have a pretty deep obsession with Arrested Development. Maybe some of you know that. I mean, I have props and pictures with cast members…But let’s not get into it, it makes me emotional.
