Top three reasons to participate in OC-2 testing:
3. You get individual feedback on how to improve your technique
2. You can measure your progress throughout the year
1. It's fun to hang out on the dock and cheer on your teammates!
OC-2 testing is an important tool that the coaches use to determine how to seat the boats for a tournament. While it's only required to qualify for Red, it's highly encouraged for all paddlers to participate. This is especially true later in the season when we are lucky enough to have so many paddlers that everyone doesn't fit on the Open/Womens rosters. The results are anonymous (as long as you keep your time to yourself!), and the environment is supportive, so come try it out!!
Important: While the OC-2 does measure a paddler's strength and fitness, it is only one of several criteria that the coaches consider in boat selection. Just because you kill it on the OC-2, it doesn't mean you're entitled to a seat on any boat! Equally important are your performance in practice (e.g. timing, blending, technique) and your team-oriented, easily coachable attitude.
