Pre-TI 2013 OC-2 Results

I'm sure those of you guys who lose sleep over the time trials (ahem Kim) have already noticed the results up.  For the rest of you... find them here!

So again, new place, new times.  Don't beat yourself up because your time was slower than before.  This course is longer, which is GOOD because our goal is to simulate a 500m race in a dragon boat.  I know some of you boys are strong, but even a dragon boat full of yous wouldn't cross the finish line in under 1:50. ;)  Another advantage of the longer course is that the spread of results is wider, making it easier to differentiate paddlers.  If you're just barely keeping up with your carrot, you're going to have to work a little harder!

ROAD TO TI!

Just 8 practices left! Treasure Island will have tough competition, as it does every year, and everyone will be watching us.  So let’s hit it hard and train with Intention!  Get out to practice, participate in land drills and lead by example in BOOST participation. 9 months of training, let’s do this!

 

1.  TI OC-2 Time Trials – Sun Aug 25 

-   Sign-up on the Doodle!

-   Primary test date is Sun Aug 25, if that date gets filled up or you absolutely cannot make that date, notify coaches. The tentative make-up date is the following Sunday Sep 1st before or after practice.

-   NEW LOCATION – Huntington Beach <MAPS>

1. Take the ramp onto E 2nd St - 1.0 mi
2. Continue onto Westminster Blvd - 3.5 mi
3. Turn right onto Bolsa Chica Rd - 2.1 mi
4. Turn right onto Edinger Ave - 1.3 mi
5. Turn left onto Trinidad Ln., Destination will be on the right - 0.2 mi

Arrive at: 16345 Trinidad Ln Huntington Beach, CA 92649, (west side of the bridge on the beach/finish line)

-   Keep in-mind, time trials are not simply for coaches’ seating data, they are a good way for each paddler to demonstrate technique in isolation which coaches can review and give feedback as well as a way for paddlers to track their own progress throughout the season.

Pre-TI 2013 OC-2 Time Trial

Welcome to Huntington Harbor, new home of the Space Dragons OC-2 time trial!

Esmer and Kim did some scouting, and it looks like a promising location, with parking, restrooms and a small beach to hang out at!  We'll try this location this time around, and if it seems like conditions are pretty consistent through the day, we will continue to use this location in the future.

SD Weekly Digest 8/14/13

FINISH STRONG!

With a little more than 4 weeks until TI, we need to make good use of these remaining days to prepare for a Strong Finish.  Treasure Island will have tough competition, as it does every year, and everyone will be watching us.  So let’s hit it hard and make everyone see all the hard work we have put in this year.  Get out to practice, intensify your land drills and fine-tune with SDWW and BOOST participation.

1. 2013 PDBA CLUB CREW QUALIFIERS (Oakland)

-   Great Job Oakland crew!  Each race was a Grand A Finals heat.  It was LOUD and CROWDED each and every race.  While we finished just shy of our goal, 2^nd place in BOTH divisions is a HUGE accomplishment in ANY circumstances.  Sub-second losses are an opportunity to learn. Let it serve each and every one of us in preparing for TI.  ONE TEAM!

PDBA Club Crew World Championship Qualifiers

2nd place Premier Mixed
2nd place Premier Open

Congratulations to all the local teams from Southern CA who earned bids to compete in Italy at the IDBF Club Crew World Championships in 2014. 

The racing in Oakland was down to the wire the entire weekend. And while we came just short (literally inches!!) of reaching our goals, given the caliber of our competition, we're extremely proud of what our crew and our community were able to accomplish.

CA U23 and Long Beach Masters, represent us well at CCWC! And as always, a big thank you to the organizers and volunteers of every venue that we attend, particularly the Oakland Renegades and the CDBA.
