1. SUCCESSFUL FRIENDS AND FAMILY DAY!

Holy Cow! Was Friends and Family Day a blast or what?! By our guesstimation, we had around 80 folks total out on the beach - a great mix of newbies, actively participating veterans, and much-missed (and much loved) vets that sadly do not come out to paddle as much as we would like! And the FOOD! Oh my how the team came together and produced quite the bountiful feast. So bountiful in fact that we were able to feed the half-starved UCLA team...and still had left-overs!
Big thanks to Denise for handling the complex logistics and spending the time to ensure we'd have such a feast. Which couldn't be done without Robert, Ceez, Deej, Rod, Scott, and a whole bunch of others that were gracious enough to bring and let us use their tables, tents and other equipment for the day.
The fun didn't end with paddling - more fun was had with the Space Amazing Race! We thank Devant and the many volunteers it took to pull such an exciting (and sometimes chaotic) game. Everyone had fun, especially the team that walked away with their prize of some fresh Krispy Kreme donuts!
But most of all, we would like to thank all of you, TIME Magazine 2006 Person of the Year, because without you, Friends and Family wouldn't be as great, fun and successful as it was!

2. PRACTICE -- IMPORTANT CHANGES, PLEASE READ

Starting this Sunday 4/10, Sunday practice is moved up to 7:30 AM due to boat availability (we weren't kidding last October when we said if you don't want to practice at 7, you better get your waivers in)
Please let your newbies know of this change, we don't want anyone to miss the boat!
Wednesday practice will start on 4/13. Mark your calendars! -- please fill out the poll

3. OC-2 TESTING FOR BABY LONG BEACH - 4/10

Want to get on Red boat? OC-2 testing is mandatory.
Want to gauge your progress and improvement as a paddler and also your general fitness level? Try out OC-2 testing!
Coaches use state-of-the-art, CIA-approved 256-bit encryption software to ensure that your results are absolutely anonymous to everyone but you! Ok, not really, but they're kept secret with pin numbers.

There IS practice on Sunday, OC-2 testers will get practice credit if your time is during practice or within 30 minutes of practice start/end

4. SD SOCIAL HOUR -- Thursday 4/14

Did you enjoy the First Friday at the Natural History Museum?
The 2nd edition of the SD Social Hour will be the Downtown LA Art Walk
It is a free, self-guided, public event held every 2nd Thursday of the month in Downtown LA
The activities will take place mostly at galleries around Spring and Main
There will be food trucks, mainly around 2nd and Spring
Parking situation in Downtown could be difficult, so carpooling or public transit is highly encouraged
We'll meet at 7 PM at 2nd and Spring (yup, SDs love food!)
